Grant Types

The Architecture and Design Commission (ADC) Research Grants Program offers two distinct funding opportunities to advance research and its dissemination across the architecture and design fields:

Research Project Grant

The Research Grant supports the development and advancement of new or ongoing research in the fields of architecture and design. It enables researchers to pursue original, high-quality investigations that generate meaningful insights and contribute to both academic knowledge and professional practice.
Funding is available for key stages of the research journey—from concept development and data collection to prototyping and fieldwork. By supporting rigorous and impactful inquiry, this grant fosters a research culture that addresses pressing challenges and drives innovation within the Kingdom's design ecosystem.

Research Dissemination Grant

The Research Dissemination Grant supports the sharing and communication of completed research across the fields of architecture and design. It enables researchers to extend the impact of their work by reaching academic, professional, and public audiences through various dissemination platforms.
Funding is available for activities such as conference presentations, publications, exhibitions, or other forms of public engagement. By supporting the visibility of research outcomes, this grant helps strengthen knowledge exchange, foster sector-wide dialogue, and highlight the contributions of Saudi-based research to global conversations in design and architecture.

Beneficiaries

For researchers, including academics and practitioners, active in the six sectors—Urban Design & Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, and Industrial Design—who are seeking financial support for research and knowledge dissemination.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are proposing a new research project or working on an existing study that requires additional support for its development or completion of specific stages, you should apply for a Research Project Grant. However, if your research is complete and you wish to share its results through publication or participation in conferences and exhibitions, you should apply for a Research Publication Grant.

No, each grant is designed for a specific stage of the research process. You cannot apply for both grants with the same project; however, you may apply for one and then later apply for the other once the eligibility criteria are met.

Yes, collaboration is encouraged, and applicants may work with local or international researchers, provided that the principal applicant meets the eligibility criteria and that the research is relevant to the architecture and design ecosystem in the Kingdom.

Yes, each applicant may submit up to five applications in total across the two types of grants, provided that each application is for a different project or research output.

The financial support limit is determined according to the requirements of each grant proposal, and at this stage, there is no fixed ceiling for support. However, the categories of eligible costs for both types of grants have been outlined in the applicant guidelines.

Proposals may be submitted in either Arabic or English, and supporting materials can be attached in the same language, as specified in the application guidelines. Please note that once a language is chosen, the entire application must be completed in that language to ensure consistency.

Due to the large number of applications, it is not possible to guarantee detailed feedback and comments. However, general feedback on the application may be shared whenever possible.
